Explanation/Why Proper Maintenance is Important

We primarily install systems from Itho Daalderop, Zehnder, and Orcon. Good ventilation in the home ensures a healthy airflow. Supplying clean air and removing polluted air reduces the likelihood of health problems. By continuously ventilating your home through a mechanical ventilation system or a heat recovery ventilation (HRV) system, molds, tobacco smoke, and particulate matter have no chance to spread in your home. By regularly maintaining your ventilation system, you ensure that fresh air comes in and moisture and pollutants are removed from the house.

Maintain Your Ventilation System
Various studies have shown that a mechanical ventilation system in a house has only about 80% efficiency within two years. Due to the amount of dust that accumulates in the ducts and the extraction unit, the efficiency quickly declines. Of course, a clean system will have optimal capacity and adjustment compared to a dirty system.

Has your ventilation system been cleaned?
Modern homes are airtight. If effective ventilation is desired, it must be done with a well-functioning and clean ventilation system. Since we breathe, wash, cook, do dishes, shower, and have plants, mechanical ventilation is essential. Additionally, household products such as carpet, paint, textiles, printed materials, etc., contain harmful substances for your health. A properly functioning ventilation system takes care of this for you.

When the air in the home is not adequately ventilated, the following symptoms may worsen:

  • Excessively humid indoor climate
  • Headaches
  • Sleep problems, fatigue
  • Skin problems
  • Nasal problems
  • Watery eyes
  • Respiratory conditions such as asthma
  • Allergies
  • Ensure constant air exchange throughout the year. This can be achieved by opening the ventilation grilles at each window or leaving a window slightly open.

House dust mites
House dust mites live in homes throughout the year and thrive during winter weather. In summer, house dust mites proliferate, but because people spend more time outdoors and keep windows open, we don’t notice them as much. From autumn onwards, we tend to close the windows more often and turn on the heating. The dust behind the radiators becomes airborne and is inhaled, potentially triggering asthma attacks. To limit house dust mites, proper ventilation is crucial.

Airing out is not ventilation. The healthy air is gone half an hour after closing the windows again. With continuous ventilation, you ensure fresh air in your home 24 hours a day. This underscores the importance of a well-functioning ventilation system.

Have you ever considered what’s in the air you breathe?
Every day, you inhale about 11,000 liters of air, with around 80% being indoors. Every home contains moisture and dirt. Only through proper ventilation can these be expelled from the house.

Research from Maastricht University has shown a relationship between poor indoor climate and higher healthcare costs. In homes with a poor indoor climate, people are on average more frequently and longer ill. The main causes are poor ventilation and neglect of maintenance, leading to moisture and mold. Dust and mold accumulate in the ventilation ducts, causing poor indoor air quality. Because this happens gradually, people may not realize that poor ventilation is the cause of their health problems.
